The Directorate of Distance Education(DDE), Patna University, then known as Institute of correspondence Course, Patna University was established in 1974 and it is the first institute in the large eastern region of India to impart education through correspondance . For the last 32 year the DDE has been serving continuously in the field of higher education and has been gaining popularity day by day. The fast increasing number of students every year indicate its popularity. At present more than 13,000 students are getting their education through this institute. Being an integral part of the Patna University the Direcotrate of Distance Education is governed by the decisions of the statutory bodies of the university.
There is an Advisory committee under the chairmanship of the Vice chancellor, Patna University which has administrative and financial control over the DDE. The examinations of the DDE students are conducted by the Patna University and their degrees are awarded by the Patna University.
Who Can Take Admission?
Those students who though possessing necessary educational qualifications are unable to join any regular college for some reasons or other can take admission at the DDE and continue their higher education. Those persons who are engaged in some service or business, cannot afford to live at Patna for attending classes in the colleges, those girls who after marriage find difficult to attend classes etc. can take advantage of the DDE.
